New XLNT-6 Welding Wire Offers High Impact Strength at Low Temperatures
TROY, Ohio. May 17, 2010-As a complement to its premier Fabshield® XLR-8 TM all-position welding wire, Hobart Brothers now offers the Fabshield XLNT-6TM self-shielded flux-cored wire for flat and horizontal welding applications that require impact toughness properties. Designed for use on structural steel weldments and bridge construction, the XLNT-6 wire (AWS classification E70T-6) also provides outstanding welding performance on heavy equipment repair applications, as well as ship and barge construction. Due to its high deposition rates and excellent arc stability, XLNT-6 wire can also help contractors on these jobs improve their productivity, especially compared to using stick electrodes.
Like the Fabshield XLR-8 wire, the new XLNT-6 wire offers excellent impact strength at low temperatures (25 ft/lbs at -20 F) to help resist cracking in applications subject to severe weather. The wire also features a fast-freezing, easy-to-remove slag to prevent slag entrapment that could result in costly and time-consuming rework.
XLNT-6 provides a tensile strength of 87,200 psi with a yield strength of 66, 250 psi, and it requires no shielding gas, making it highly portable for outdoor welding.
Currently, Hobart Brothers offers XLNT-6 wire 3/32- and 5/64-inch diameter in 25-lb. vacuum-sealed package or a 50-lb. coil. Both wires conform to AWS A5.20 requirements and can be used for single- or multi-pass welding. The 3/32-inch diameter meets the D designator also, making it usable for strict AWS D1.8 Demand Critical welds.
Hobart Brothers is dedicated to the highest level of Performance Welding™.
